Homeschool software review: Homeschool Day Book

We've decided to use the Homeschool Day Book software for Harvest Homeschool's recordkeeping. After trying several other software packages, it soon became clear that this software was the best fit for us.

Homeschool Day Book review

After a <3MB download and rapid install, we were looking at Homeschool Day Book's spartan interface. My first thought was, "How can this software compete with the multitudes of buttons and screens of other packages?" Eventually, though, I began to see the beauty of its simplicity.

Honestly, there's not much to using Homeschool Day Book. Which is great for our busy teacher!

Initial setup

  1. Type in your Kid's names
  2. Adjust the list of subjects to match your curriculum

Daily recordkeeping process

  1. Create an entry (title, time spent, "what we did", and which kids/subjects)
  2. There is no step 2.

Attendance, time tracking, various reports (attendance, time spent per subject, etc) are all generated from this daily entry. And because Stephanie typically references page numbers in her curriculum, she doesn't have to type out the lesson details.

Now it is clear to us that the multitude of features in other software packages would actually over-complicate our basic goal: good homeschool record keeping. Thankfully, Homeschool Day Book allows us to perform this task with excellence.
